Parasitic Drains, Wiring Faults and Modules

Electrical faults are where guessing gets expensive fastest, because the symptom and the cause are often nowhere near each other. This is meter and scope work rather than parts swapping.

A dashboard full of unrelated warning lights is frequently one bad ground.

How we trace it

A meter, a scope, wiring diagrams and voltage-drop testing. Parasitic draw testing for the overnight battery drain, measuring the actual current and then finding the circuit responsible by working through the fuses.

Corrosion is the local specialty. Salt gets into connectors and ground points and creates resistance that is not visible from the outside. A ground that looks fine can still be a bad ground.

Where it overlaps

Charging faults, starting faults and battery condition are all part of the same picture, a "bad battery" is sometimes a bad alternator, and a "bad alternator" is sometimes a corroded cable. We test the system rather than swapping the obvious part.

Electrical Repair. Common Questions

That usually points at a parasitic draw, something staying awake after the vehicle is shut down. It is traceable, but it takes measurement rather than parts swapping.

Often, yes. Bring it in and let us look at what was installed and how.

Usually a parasitic drain, meaning something is drawing current after the vehicle should be asleep. Finding it means measuring the draw and isolating circuits one at a time.

Shared grounds. A single corroded ground point can affect a group of circuits that seem to have nothing in common, which is why we test rather than assume.

Most damage is repairable if it can be reached, particularly rodent damage and corrosion at connectors. Full harness replacement is a last resort.

Some, and some require manufacturer specific software. Call with the year, make and model and we will tell you up front which yours is.

Because they have to be present to be measured. A fault that only appears when the vehicle is wet or warm has to be reproduced first.
