Oil Changes in Bedford, Ohio
An oil change is the cheapest appointment on the calendar and the most useful one, because it puts the vehicle on a lift every few months.
An Oil Change Plus a Proper Look Underneath
The oil change is the routine part. The useful part is that the vehicle is on a lift with someone underneath it who knows what a developing problem looks like, which is how most small repairs get caught while they are still small.
Most of what we catch early gets caught during an oil change.

What the service includes
- Oil and filter to the specification your vehicle requires
- Fluid level check, coolant, brake, washer, power steering where fitted
- Tire pressures and tread condition
- A look at belts, hoses and the battery
- Visual brake check while the wheels are visible
- Underbody check for leaks, corrosion and damage
On the right oil
Modern engines are specific about this. Viscosity and specification are engineering requirements, turbocharged engines, engines with variable valve timing and engines with extended service intervals all depend on the oil meeting a particular standard, not just being the right thickness.
We use what your vehicle specifies. If someone has been putting the wrong grade in, that is usually visible and worth mentioning.
How often
Follow the handbook, with a caveat that matters locally. Manufacturer intervals assume typical driving. Short trips in cold weather, which describes a Bedford winter accurately, are classed as severe service in most handbooks, and that shortens the interval. If your commute is fifteen minutes and it is February, you are in the severe column whether it feels like it or not.
The part that matters most
While the vehicle is up, we look at it. Leaks, corroded lines, worn suspension, a tire wearing unevenly, an exhaust starting to go. None of that costs anything to notice, and noticing it early is the difference between a repair and a bigger repair.

Oil & Lube. Common Questions
Call the shop first, (440) 735-4600. We will tell you what the day looks like and when to bring it in.
Start with your handbook. If you mostly do short trips in cold weather, you are in the severe-service interval, which is shorter than the standard one.
Follow the manufacturer's interval for your engine and oil type rather than a generic number. Short trips, towing and cold winters all push the interval shorter.
Use what the manufacturer specifies. Many modern engines, particularly turbocharged ones, require synthetic and will suffer on anything else.
Fluid levels, belts and hoses, tire condition and pressures, brake and suspension components in view, and any leaks or damage underneath.
The monitors on most modern vehicles account for how the vehicle is actually driven and are generally trustworthy. Still worth checking the level between changes.
Not on its own. Oil darkens as it does its job of holding contaminants in suspension. Level and interval matter more than colour.
