Fluid Exchanges in Bedford, Ohio
Fluids do not last forever. They also do not all need changing as often as they get sold.
Which Fluids Actually Have Intervals, and Which Do Not
Fluid services are where upselling lives in this industry, which is a shame, because several of them are genuinely important. The distinction is whether your manufacturer specifies an interval or somebody made one up.
We go by the manufacturer interval and the condition of what is in there.

Brake fluid
Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air over time. Water in the system lowers the boiling point and corrodes components from the inside, and in the salt belt, internal corrosion of brake lines and ABS components is not a theoretical concern. Most manufacturers specify a time-based interval for this one rather than a mileage one.
Coolant
Coolant is not just antifreeze. The corrosion inhibitors in it deplete, and once they do, the coolant starts working against the water pump, radiator and heater core rather than protecting them. Modern long-life coolants last a long time, but not indefinitely, and they are vehicle-specific, mixing types causes real problems.
Transmission fluid
This one needs care. Some manufacturers specify an interval, some claim a lifetime fill, and "lifetime" tends to mean the warranty period rather than the life of the vehicle. On a healthy transmission with a specified interval, a service is good maintenance. On a transmission that is already slipping, it is not a repair, and we will say so.
Differential and transfer case
Easy to forget, particularly on four-wheel drive vehicles that tow or work. The intervals are in the handbook and the fluid tells its own story when it comes out.
Fluid Exchanges. Common Questions
Two things: what the manufacturer schedule says for your vehicle, and what the fluid looks like. We will show you both rather than just recommending it.
In practice, "lifetime" usually means the warranty period. Ask us about your specific vehicle, it genuinely varies.
The ones with a manufacturer specified interval for your vehicle. Brake fluid, coolant and transmission fluid commonly have them. We will show you where yours sits.
It absorbs moisture from the air over time. That lowers its boiling point, which matters under heavy braking, and corrodes components from the inside.
That phrasing usually means no interval was published, not that the fluid lasts forever. Many transmissions marketed that way benefit from a service.
A drain and fill replaces what comes out. A flush exchanges the fluid in the whole circuit. Which is appropriate depends on the system and its condition.
Condition and interval together. We check both rather than selling a service by mileage alone.
